Women Africa takes a look at the awesome Nike pride commercial, which has been lauded by the LGBTQ global community.
Nike’s #BETRUE collection of adverts have made a huge social impact, especially after releasing videos focused on breaking boundaries during Black History Month and their pro-hijab advert in February.
Their latest one focused on gay pride, starring Leiomy Maldonado.
Leiomy is a Puerto Rican vogue dancer, instructor and activist known as the “Wonder Woman of Vogue”, boasting career achievements such as that of being the first transgender woman to compete on season 4 of MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew and also inspiring Beyoncé’s and Britney Spears’ choreography.
In this ad, written and directed by Daisy Zhou to honour the LGBTQ community, we see visuals of the Wonder Woman voguing along with other dancers of the queer community, accompanied by the moving narration done by trans artist Precious Angel Ramirez.
